About us The International Fellowship of Bridge Playing Rotarians IFBPR is a global group of Rotarians, their Spouses and Rotaractors, interested in playing bridge with friends as an opportunity for fellowship and service. This Fellowship is registered by Rotary International, operates in accordance with the Rotary Policy but is not an agency nor is controlled by Rotary International. Everything is on line: mail, registration, voting, constitution, board, newsletter, bridge playing, etc. The only face to face activities take place at R.I. Conventions and in Milano as for the literacy activity connected with the Irene Project in favour of blind people. Our main appeal is the possibility to interact with like-minded people to play bridge with friends on internet wherever they are. In addition, every year we meet in our booth in the House of Friendship at the R.I. Conventions (Barcelona, Brisbane, Osaka, Chicago, Copenhagen, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles and now Birmingham), where we meet old and new friends, who join the Fellowship as a result of personal interactions.
ObjectivesThe INSTITUTIONAL OBJECTIVE is to encourage and foster the development of acquaintance as an opportunity of international understanding and goodwill through a world of fellowship of bridge players united in the ideal of service. The UMANITARIAN SERVICE: the Object of Rotary is to foster the ideal of service, and the Bridge Fellowship is following this ideal by means of the “Irene Project” in favour of blind people. The objective is to develop the computer literacy of blind people with tailored courses, teach them bridge on-line using standard computers and finally play bridge with us and friends on internet. The STRUCTURAL OBJECTIVE includes management organization, communications, telematic developments, organization of bridge tournaments, identification of bridge players among Rotarians and participation to R.I. Conventions.
BOARD ELECTION Within the Olympic year 2008 a new Board of Directors of our Fellowship must be elected. The Nominating Committee was appointed to gather nominations, and ballots were sent by e-mail to Members. Results will be communicated to Members and to Rotary International within January 2009. The new Board will take office from July 1st. 2009 for a four years term.
IFBPR at the 100th R.I. Convention in Birmingham, UK Rotary celebrated the 100th Convention from June 21 to 24, 2009. We were present with a booth to promote the Irene Project, to improve bridge playing on internet among Rotarians and to recruit new members to IFBPR. During the Convention we had also our “IFBPR Yearly General Meeting” and attended the “General Meeting of all Rotary Fellowships”. |
